Environmental Fleet Services Honored with California WRAP Award for New Waste Cutting Technology

Environmental Fleet Services was honored by Californias Integrated Waste Management Board for its unique heavy diesel engine technologies that eliminate waste products, improve engine efficiency and reduce costs.

December 15, 2004 -- For its outstanding efforts to reduce waste and protect the environmental, Environmental Fleet Services (EFS), of Los Angeles, California, has been named a winner in the 2004 Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) sponsored by the California Integrated Waste Management Board the states leading authority on recycling and waste reduction.

Businesses make up the engine that keeps Californias economy strong, said Board Chair Rosario Marin. It is a pleasure to honor each winner of this years WRAP Awards because their voluntary efforts help local cities and counties by recycling and reducing the amount of materials going into landfills. WRAP Awards recognize the good work businesses do to bring us closer to zero waste in California.

Now in its 12th year, the WRAP awards honor businesses for cutting the amount of trash they produce, conserving resources and reducing waste disposal in landfills. In addition, these communities will be celebrating their businesses achievements within their jurisdictions statewide. All together, this years WRAP honorees have diverted 1.8 million tons of materials from local landfills through excellent resource management and recycling, and their voluntary waste reduction efforts have saved them $135 million in operating costs.

Californias business sector generates half of the states trash so businesses can have a significant impact on their communities waste reduction goals by taking proactive steps to reduce what they throw away. Creativity and putting in place a plan that works for individual business are the keys to successful reduction efforts. Not only will businesses realize savings from buying smarter, many also find their waste disposal fees dramatically lowered as the need for hauling waste decreases. For example, businesses of all sizes are encouraged to find reuses for materials like paper, cardboard, and plastic (to name a few), to purchase office supplies and other products made from recycled-content materials, and to send their landscape trimmings for composing to keep them out of local landfills.

Applicants are honored based upon a set of criteria developed in cooperation with the business community. Practices evaluated include waste prevention, materials reuse, recycling, recycled-product procurement, and employee education. All WRAP awardees receive a certificate of recognition from the chair and members of the California Integrated Waste Management Board, as well as the right to use the WRAP logo for promotional advertising and publicity about their accomplishments.
